NURSE UNIT MANAGER
We are a busy, private and independently Australian owned day hospital specialising in women’s health, maxillofacial and cosmetic surgery. We are seeking a highly experienced and enthusiastic Nurse Unit Manager to join our friendly team at Brisbane Day Hospital.
This is a rewarding full-time position, requiring advanced nursing knowledge, skills and resources to ensure compliance with policies and legislation. About the role
You will be responsible for efficient management of staff and resources within the unit ensuring achievement of excellence in care delivery in line with policies and procedures, best practice and legislative requirements.
A significant component of this role is mentoring and leading the passionate team of nurses and clinical support staff as well as working alongside a supportive executive team. This role will suit an individual driven to help others succeed. This is a perfect opportunity for a senior nurse to step up into a management role and build a clinical leadership skillset, while applying sound clinical practice which ensures a safe environment and promotes optimal health;
Salary range: $110,422.40 - $121,998.24 plus superannuation
Key responsibilities
Lead, manage, direct and support the care team to ensure that care is delivered with a team member’s scope of practice, is evidence based and is safe and high quality in line with policies and protocols.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with residents or clients, their families or carers and members of the health care team.
Act as a patient advocate ensuring patients are informed and consent is gained prior to procedures
Contribute to the maintenance of an environment which promotes safety, security and personal integrity of individual patients and groups
Complies with organisational policies, procedures, work instructions and guidelines
Ensure confidentiality of corporate and patient information
Negotiate on behalf of the Hospital with the relevant suppliers of stock and equipment, the Business Manager is to be included in such negotiations
Ensure there is an appropriate, cost efficient and effective system of stock and inventory control

Accreditation and governance
Maintain practice within framework established by legislation, national and state policy.
Understand, comply with and adhere to Brisbane Day Hospital guidelines, principles, policies and protocols.
Ensure compliance with the National Standards and achievement of accreditation.
Participate and provide support in accreditation and national standards activities as directed.
Contribute to the success of Brisbane Day Hospital as a leading health provider.
Communicate with all team members every working day to achieve the vision and mission and strategic goals of the organisation.
Support a culture of performance improvement and evaluation.
Effective prioritisation of projects and meeting of timelines.
Safe practice and environment
Contribute to workplace safety and reduction of workplace injuries.
Ensure team members, clients, patients, residents and visitors are safe and accurately report any incidents, hazards and near misses in a timely and professional manner.
Respond, relay and demonstrate information regarding emergency codes and support team members to respond appropriately to codes in the event of fire or other emergency.
Responsible for the safe management of equipment – this includes using equipment within standard operating guidelines, conducting appropriate preventative maintenance and not using unsafe equipment.

Key selection criteria
Qualifications and relative experience
Registered Nurse with APHRA.
Registered Nurse with current national registration.
Relevant post graduate training or education in, acute medical or emergency nursing or plans to undertake same.
Relevant post graduate education in leadership and management or plans to undertake same.

Preferred
Contemporary generalist nursing knowledge and experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of accreditation or national standards.
Experience in providing general and urgent nursing care.
